History

Endrigna to symbolize the wisdom
of the Indri indri

“One day, Solo’s great-grandfather went into the forest to collect honey by climbing the trees.
He ended up hanging there, unable to come down, and was considered lost for a whole week.
When he finally returned, he told that an Indri indri had saved him: the animal had guided him and led him safely back to the ground, allowing him to find his way back to the village.
Since that event, this species became sacred to him, and he felt it was his duty to protect the Indri indri.
The villagers attributed a special wisdom to them and called them ‘Endrigna,’ a symbol of wisdom and generosity.”

« Ampangalatsary: a village rich in biodiversity…”

At the heart of the fokontany of Ampangalatsary lies a precious islest of primary forest, a refuge for the Indri indri, one of the largest lemurs of Madagascar. This village, a true treasure of biodiversity, also serves as an ecological corridor.
However, under the impact of human activities and various pressures, this forest ecosystem is now facing the threat of disappearance.
